Colworth - Our Center of Craftsmanship

Working in a joint venture across two large multinational companies we have the great privilege of being able to locate our people in either a PepsiCo or Unilever office. In the UK we have two offices.  A Research and Development centre in Bedfordshire and a Marketing office in Surrey.

Colworth is the Bedfordshire office and is located in the picturesque village of Sharnbrook, within the grounds of a Grade II listed stately house.  The house and its grounds are steeped in history stretching back more than 2,000 years. There is even an onsite museum, housing the history of Colworth House and Unilever.

Colworth is where you will find our Global R&D, Packaging and Supply Chain totalling around 25 Pepsi Lipton team members.  The facilities here include laboratories and a Pilot Plant where new formulations are developed and trialled with the additional support of state of the art analytical facilities.

Colworth is now a Science Park and plays host to more than 650 Unilever employees together with many third party companies including British Gas, Cambridge University and Cranfield University.  We have an on-site gymnasium, a site restaurant and a large conference building which can host more than 200 people.  We also have fantastic sports facilities to include a golf course, cricket pitch and squash & tennis courts to name but a few.

Gladys Diaz - Global Insights Manager

If you could go anywhere this weekend, where would you go and why?
Well, I am lucky enough to be going to Madrid this weekend to re-connect with a friend from school I haven’t seen in 8 years! I’m very excited to enjoy some sunshine in October and be around people that know me since I had braces; I couldn’t think of anything better than relaxing and having some banter with friends.

What are you most passionate about?
My family. They provide a safe and nurturing place where I feel most like ‘myself’. I love spending time with them. We can spend hours around the dinner table dissecting a topic into finite details. We are big huggers: we hug when we say hello, goodbye, and sometimes when we’ve been gone from the room for a while.

What is one thing you have learnt in the last year?
Persevere. Sometimes, though, if you stop looking for things they will just appear before you. Applies to life goals and keys!

Your favourite memory involving tea:
A while back I got into a routine of going to the gym first thing in the morning. I’d then get peanut butter on toast and a cup of black tea with milk for breakfast. At times, knowing that I would have that cup of tea was the only thing keeping me going on the treadmill.

Josue Riestra - Brand Manager LatAm

If you could go anywhere this weekend, where would you go and why?
I would love to go to Japan (to see the F1 race) but also to know this great and different culture

What are you most passionate about?
I love travelling and I love to know new places and get to explore them (not just know the “regular” stuff). Also I’m very competitive so I like all kind of sports

What is one thing you have learnt in the last year?
That time is the most limited resource we have. We should love everything we do or don’t to it. I like to experiment and learn from my past mistakes, but always remembering that we only have one life and everything we do must be worth living

Your favourite memory involving tea:
The time Ximena told me I was selected for my new position and that I would be able to participate in this great team

What you hope to get from your time in the joint venture:
A new experience. I hope to learn a lot from a new and different business. I also am looking forward to getting to know my new home, since I’m moving to Guatemala, new friends and experience a new culture.
